Did you know you can manage repeat prescriptions in the NHS App?

You can easily choose where your prescriptions are sent. So, if you know you'll be away from home or you are moving home, you can change your nominated pharmacy from within the app.

You can also order your prescription at any time that suits you. There’s no need to wait to join a telephone queue or wait until the GP surgery opens.

How Do I Obtain A Repeat Prescription?

Repeat prescriptions will be issued at the doctor's discretion and are normally for patients on long-term treatment who's medication is on their repeat medication list.

Requests for prescriptions can be made in writing, online using Patient Access, via The NHS App (please ask reception for registration details) or via our secure online form.  Please give the exact drug name, dose and quantitity required when ordering. We are sorry that we cannot accept requests for any medication over the telephone. This is practice policy for your safety.

Repeat prescriptions take 48 hours to process by Birchington Medical Centre. This is 2 working days NOT INCLUDING THE WEEKEND OR BANK HOLIDAYS. Your pharmacy may require additional days to make up your prescription.

Submitting your repeat prescription late on a Friday afternoon and demanding it is processed because you have forgotten to order your medication in not acceptable. Ordering your repeat medications in advance (ideally 7 days) is YOUR responsibility.

We process, on average, 300 prescription requests and queries daily, so please help us to make this process run smoothly. Requests MUST be made in writing, and this can include by email, letter, using your repeat ordering slip or complete one of our repeat request forms available in the waiting room (on the table by the lift). We cannot accept any prescription requests over the phone.

Please also note that if you are requesting your medication more than one week early, please state the reason for this otherwise your prescription will not be issued.  If you are going into hospital or on holiday, please state this clearly on the request so there is no hold up in issuing your medication.

Thank you.
